A superb example of craftsmanship! And this is the red Rioja wine that made Egomei famous. But it requires a great deal of work and expertise. It all begins in the old vineyard planted in Alfaro (Rioja) since 1975. The now very mature vines produce a remarkable harvest, and this red Egomei wine consists of eighty-five percent Tempranillo and fifteen percent Graciano. All the grapes develop a kind of princely life and are well-suited to the extremely high temperatures of the Rioja, which can reach over forty degrees Celsius in summer. This makes it crucial that the old vines have deep roots to transport moisture to the bunches. The climate is perfect there, with warm summers and cool winters, making the Rioja ideal for producing very powerful red wines like this Egomei.
Washed grapes for this Egomei Rioja
Yes, you read that right, the grapes are washed. But first, the grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness. At Egomei, a very large team begins harvesting the grapes by hand very early in the morning. They are transported in small crates to the modern winery, where they are showered. This is a technique unique to the Egomei winery, because, as the winemaker says, fresh and clean grapes produce finer wines. We certainly noticed this when tasting this beautiful red Rioja.
Wood aging for the Egomei Rioja
The Egomei Rioja is aged for 14 months on its lees in French Allier oak barriques. Finally, it is bottle-aged for 6 months. And that's what you get! The nose reveals a mineral note and dominant aromas of sweet black fruit, along with a pleasant hint of oak and vanilla. The palate is rich with well-integrated tannins. The excellent balance between the fruit and the oak lends elegance and finesse to this Egomei. Delicious nuances of black fruit combined with the pleasant tannins make this Rioja perfect. The finish is long and intense. A wine to truly savor!
