Alcohol-free wines—we're seeing them more and more often, but we've never tasted an alcohol-free wine as beautiful as this one. The last taste test, in which 75 different alcohol-free wines were sampled, proved this point. Weingut Leitz won hands down with all their wines. They were even called the "Grand Cru" of alcohol-free wines, and we couldn't agree more! What richness and finesse we find in this enchanting alcohol-free wine from Weingut Leitz. The name is, of course, absolutely fantastic—"Eins, Zwei, Zero"—and it's no wonder it's the most beautiful alcohol-free wine. The Leitz family began making wine in Germany in 1744. Unfortunately, the winery was destroyed during the war, but Josef Leitz rebuilt it in 1964. He started with 3 hectares of vineyards but managed to expand the winery to a whopping 40 hectares. The vineyards are divided into the üdesheim areas of Berg Schlossberg, Berg Rottland and Berg Kaisersteinfels.
Germany's best alcohol-free wine
Today, the Leitz family still runs this beautiful winery. Thanks to modern techniques and unique innovations, they now produce an alcohol-free wine under the label Eins, Zwei, Zero. The Riesling grapes used for this wine are treated just as they would be for regular wines. All attention is focused on the vineyards, because that's where the success story begins. Johannes Leitz grows the grapes in a cool climate, allowing them to retain their freshness and minerality. The latter, of course, comes from the soil structure, which consists of abundant pebbles and quartz. Once the Riesling grapes have fully absorbed the grapes and are ripe, they are harvested early in the morning. Each grape is carefully inspected to ensure only the finest are used in this Eins, Zwei, Zero Riesling.
What does the Eins, Zwei, Zero Riesling taste like?
The juice is pressed and fermented, and the alcohol is extracted using a special technique. Only the alcohol, the aromas and flavors, remain, making this Eins, Zwei, Zero Riesling a superb glass of alcohol-free wine. With only 31 kcal per glass, it's a joy to drink. It all begins the moment we open the bottle, immediately encountering an aroma reminiscent of red apple and lime. In the glass, it's beautifully clear with a light green shimmer. Nosing the glass, we detected nuances of rhubarb, citrus fruit, green apple, and a touch of gooseberry. The palate is enchanting, with a ripe attack of yellow and citrus fruit, followed by grapefruit and mineral notes. The finish is fresh with a rich aftertaste, making this Eins, Zwei, Zero Riesling one of the very best alcohol-free wines.
