This is the world's best when it comes to alcohol-free wines, as the Eins, Zwei, Zero wine series from Weingut Leitz was recently named the best alcohol-free wine. It's even called the Grand Cru of alcohol-free wines, and rightly so! Weingut Leitz was founded in 1744. The family winery has a long history in German wines, and we taste that in this Eins, Zwei, Zero alcohol-free wine. In 1964, Josef Leitz rebuilt the winery after it was lost in the war. Over the years, the winery has continued to grow, expanding from 3 hectares to 40 hectares of vineyards. The winery has always been at the forefront of innovative experiments and the creation of new wines. He also created the Eins, Zwei, Zero wine label and now produces truly the very best alcohol-free wines in the world.
The old vineyard for the Eins, Zwei, Zero
Today, the vineyards of Weingut Leitz are world-renowned. The Rüdesheim vineyards of Berg Schlossberg, Berg Rottland, and Berg Kaisersteinfels, in particular, have continued their tradition of producing some of Germany's finest dry wines. All of Johannes's wines bear his individual signature and showcase the diverse grandeur of the Rüdesheim terroir from which they were born. This Eins, Zwei, Zero Sparkling is made exclusively from Riesling grapes, and you can taste the difference. The bunches are cultivated under the strictest standards and are truly given a royal life. A great deal of time is spent in the vineyards, and the harvest is truly astonishing.
The smell and taste of the Eins, Zwei, Zero Sparkling Riesling
Once the Riesling bunches are brought in, they undergo a rigorous selection process. Each bunch is inspected, and only the finest are processed. After pressing, the alcohol is extracted at 29 degrees Celsius. This special technique results in the wine losing only its aroma and flavor, but only the alcohol. As a result, a glass of Eins, Zwei, Zero Sparkling Riesling contains only 30 kcal and, of course, no alcohol. Upon opening the Champagne cork, we immediately smell a powerful aroma of green apple and grapefruit. In the glass, the bubbles give our senses a little dance of joy. It's indistinguishable from Champagne, as the aroma also boasts a broad bouquet of lime, rhubarb, and red and green apple. On the palate, this Eins, Zwei, Zero Sparkling Riesling is truly exceptional. Soft bubbles evoke impressions of lime, apple, and grapefruit, before transitioning into notes of minerals and toast. The finish is truly remarkable, and yes, this is the alternative to Champagne, and it's completely alcohol-free!
