Produced from the premium grape varieties Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca, this wine expresses the vibrant aromatics and flavours of the traditional Douro varieties and their potential when blended to produce well-balanced, structured, gastronomic wines.
An ode to the Esporão vineyards
The history of the Esporão estate goes back a long way. Today, it is a leading producer of Portuguese quality wines and olive oil. The company also excels in sustainability. In 1985, the most modern winery in Portugal was built, using natural techniques as much as possible. A second winery was added in 2002, focusing primarily on white wine. The vineyards are located in the Alentejo region. This region is characterized by a summer of very hot days and sharp drops at night, followed by a winter that is extremely cold by Portuguese standards. This climate, combined with volcanic soil and local grape varieties, creates original wines.
Esporão operates sustainably with exceptional respect for nature. The vineyards are tended with great expertise and passion, with quality as the top priority. Assobio literally means "whistle" and refers to the wind that blows through the vineyards, creating a whistling sound. The wine is named after this, as a kind of tribute to the Portuguese vineyards of Esporão.
6 months of wood aging for Esporão Assobio Red
After alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures (24 to 27 degrees Celsius), approximately 20 percent of the blend is aged for six months in new and used French and American oak barrels. The result is a beautiful red wine with purple hues. Both in aroma and taste, it is a truly Portuguese wine. A refreshing aroma with ripe red fruit clearly emerging. The taste is surprising, refined, and beautifully balanced. The finish is pleasantly long.
