Evel Branco Douro 2023 is a fresh white Douro wine from Real Companhia Velha, made from Viosinho, Rabigato, Fernão Pires, and Moscatel Galego. The grapes come from Quinta do Casal da Granja and Quinta de Cidrô, two high-altitude locations where a cooler climate and slow ripening ensure aromatic precision. This fits perfectly with Evel, a historic Portuguese wine name dating back to 1913 that stands for an elegant, smooth, and accessible style.
Evel Branco comes from the Douro, specifically from cooler zones that are particularly well-suited for white grapes.
• Location / Origin: The grapes come from Quinta do Casal da Granja in Alijó and Quinta de Cidrô in São João da Pesqueira. These two origins give the wine its combination of freshness, fruit, and Douro structure.
• Altitude: Quinta do Casal da Granja is located on the high plateau of Alijó, between 500 and 600 meters in altitude. Quinta de Cidrô is situated between 450 and 600 meters, allowing the grapes to ripen more slowly and better retain their fresh acidity.
• Climate & Influences: Casal da Granja has cooler summers, colder winters, and more rainfall than lower-lying Douro vineyards. Due to its altitude, Cidrô has a milder climate than the warmer parts of the Douro, which is important for aromatic white wines.
• Soil: The vineyards are planted on typical Douro soils rich in schist. These poor, stony soils help to bring tension, concentration, and a light mineral impression to the wine.
Evel Branco 2023 is a blend of classic white grape varieties from Portugal.
• Viosinho – Douro: Viosinho provides structure, body, and ripe white fruit to the blend without losing the fresh Douro style.
• Rabigato – Douro: Rabigato brings lively acidity, citrus, and tension, keeping the wine crisp and refreshing.
• Fernão Pires – Douro: Fernão Pires adds floral aromas, soft fruitiness, and an accessible fragrance.
• Moscatel Galego – Douro: Moscatel Galego gives aromatic lift, floral notes, and a recognizably fresh perfume to the blend.
The vinification focuses on freshness, aromatic expression, and a pure white Douro style.
• Harvest & Selection: The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, with an emphasis on aroma, freshness, minerality, and natural acidity. As a result, the wine gains ripe fruit without losing its lively tension.
• Fermentation: Viosinho, Rabigato, Fernão Pires, and Moscatel Galego are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks. By processing the grapes separately, the character of each variety is better preserved.
• Aging: The wine is aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks. Stainless steel keeps the fruit clean and fresh, while the aging process gives the wine more balance and texture.
