Chenin Blanc and South Africa are naturally very closely linked! The False Bay winery, managed by Waterkloof Estate, also boasts beautiful vineyards growing this white grape. In 2004, Paul Boutinot took over the winery to fulfill his dream. He purchased the vineyards and the beautiful winery, located on Schaapenberg in Stellenbosch, just three kilometers from the ocean. These vineyards are situated at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, and from the summit, you can overlook False Bay. This is also where the name of this beautiful winery comes from. The Chenin Blanc grapes are also grown on the southern slopes of the mountain, surrounded by the Hottentots-Holland and Helderberg mountains.
A Chenin Blanc made with all the tranquility
The wine is truly given complete tranquility, from the first bunches to the bottle. The vineyards for this white Chenin Blanc are located in the Coastal Region, where they are given ample time to mature. Because the vineyard is situated at an altitude of three hundred meters, the Chenin Blanc grapes receive sufficient freshness and coolness. This allows them to ripen very slowly, giving this wine its "Slow" character. When the grapes are ripe, the harvest begins early in the morning to prevent damage to the bunches and oxidation. It is entirely hand-picked, and each bunch is inspected by hand.
The aroma and taste of the False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc
It's a joy to drink, bursting with freshness and beautiful minerals, complemented by a rich citrus fruit. In the glass, it gleams brightly with a green shimmer. It bursts from the glass, bringing to mind notes of green apple, lime zest, and grapefruit. Later, as we swirl the glass, we also smell green herbs and a touch of white pepper. The body is pure indulgence, and the palate is pampered by vibrant citrus notes. On the palate, some apple and pear, accompanied by light green herbs. A beautifully fresh, long finish completes this False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc.
