This Syrah from the Descombe family comes from the Northern Rhône region. The Descombe family owns one of the finest vineyards here and cultivates high-quality Syrah grapes. Thanks to favorable climatic conditions, the grapes ripen evenly, resulting in an expressive wine with silky tannins.
The family business Famille Descombe
Famille Descombe is a true family business, founded in 1905. It began small in the Beaujolais region, but over time, the company has steadily expanded to include vineyards in Burgundy and, in recent years, the Rhône region. Since 2000, they have not only enjoyed domestic success but have also been allowed to export their wines to many other countries. Today, the fifth generation is at the helm. Marine Descombe focuses largely on modernization and the continued expansion of the vineyards. The wines are modern, with a distinctive style and a regional touch.
The Syrah grapes thrive in clay and limestone soil, with a Mediterranean climate where warm temperatures are tempered by cooling winds. This allows the grapes to ripen optimally. Once the grapes have reached optimal ripeness, they are carefully harvested in the vineyard. Upon arrival at the cellar, they undergo strict sorting and a three-week maceration period with daily pumping over. The grapes are then slowly pressed at general pressure, and finally, the wine is aged for approximately six to eight months in concrete vats.
What does the Famille Descombe Syrah taste like?
The result is an attractive red wine that turns deep purple in the glass. The nose is expressive, with aromas of raspberries and blackberries, along with spicy notes of pepper and cinnamon. On the palate, it's a supple and indulgent wine with silky tannins. It continues into a refreshing, long finish.
