Famoso, also known as Uva Rambela, is an indigenous variety from Romagna that has been rediscovered in the past decade after a period of abandonment. The name Famoso means "famous." A remarkable name for a grape variety that has been so long forgotten. It's an aromatic grape variety with floral notes and light acidity. A perfect base for a wine!

The forgotten grape variety Famoso

In 1929, Attilio Ravaioli planted the first rows of vines that would become Poderi dal Nespoli. The winery takes its name from the small village of Nespoli, located in the Bidente Valley of Emilia Romagna. Nestled between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, the vineyards enjoy both continental and maritime influences. Today, the winery remains a family-run business and has grown to 110 hectares of vineyards, all farmed sustainably. In the fifteenth century, Italians were already making white wine from the Famoso grape. By the end of the last century, it had almost entirely disappeared. Only two rows of Famoso vines remained in a forgotten vineyard near the village of Mercato Saraceno. These vines were discovered, and the winemakers began experimenting and were impressed by this grape. Since then, about ten winemakers have resumed making Famoso wines. The grapes come from the chalky clay soils of the Faenza hills. After harvest, the grapes undergo a cold maceration of 6 to 8 hours. The grapes are then pressed, and the juice ferments in stainless steel tanks for 15 days.

How does the Poderi dal Nespoli Famoso Rubicone taste?

This Famoso Rubicone is a beautiful, soft yellow wine. The delightful aroma of this white wine has delicate floral aromas of blossom and jasmine. On the palate, it's an explosion of springtime. Delicate notes of blossom and flowers interspersed with white fruit like apple and pear, along with lovely hints of tropical fruit. This wine from the Nespolino estate is full-bodied and intense with a wonderfully sultry finish. Perfect with risotto, poultry, and fresh cheeses.
