Varietal(s) Pinot Gris

A beautiful Alsace wine made from Pinot Gris. There are many, but none quite as beautiful as this one. Fernand Engel has a long history; they've been making the finest wines for years. In the small village of Rorschwihr, you'll find this beautiful winery with an angel in the backyard, from which the name derives. And that's not all, because this Pinot Gris makes you feel like an angel is touching your tongue...

Fernand Engel's vineyards

The Fernand Engel winery is still family-owned, and it owns a total of 52 hectares in the best locations in Alsace. The Pinot Gris grapes come from plots in Rorschwihr and Bergham, about twenty kilometers from Colmar in Alsace. The vines are planted in dark, chalky soils. Domaine Engel is a true family business, where the third generation took over the helm in 1998, but is still supported by the second generation in day-to-day operations. The vineyards are maintained according to organic principles. Once the grapes are ripe, they are harvested by hand. For many years, a permanent group of pickers has been hired during the harvest, who have learned to make an initial selection in the vineyard. The philosophy is that great wine is born in the vineyard, and nothing is left to chance. After the harvest, the whole bunches are pressed simultaneously. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled, low temperature. After pressing and fermentation, the wine remains in contact with the yeasts for several months to give it additional structure.

A fruity Pinot Gris

On the nose, this Pinot Gris offers hints of flowers, yellow and white fruit, and also subtle spice. This makes it an ideal pairing for Asian cuisine. The palate is soft, with delicate notes of yellow fruit, yet above all, juicy, round, and robust. Enjoy this beautiful gourmet Alsatian wine with richer dishes, such as poultry in a creamy sauce or mushrooms, or freshwater fish.
