This Colombard Ugni Blanc Sec from the Cotes de Gascogne is the base wine from the Ferret winery. We have to admit, "basic" isn't quite the right word, because this wine is incredibly delicious. And for this price point, it's unique and, with good reason, highly sought after. The grapes are carefully cultivated in the heart of the Cotes de Gascogne wine region. Plenty of sunshine and a fresh breeze ensure excellent grapes, resulting in a ripe, fresh wine.

The Vignoble Ferret winery

Domaine de Guillamen is located in southwestern France and has been in the Ferret family for six generations. Independent winemaker Dominique Ferret heads the estate with his wife, Stéphanie, a third-generation winemaker herself. Dominique initiated the estate's transition by producing Armagnac (similar to Cognac) and shifting production to white wines. Dominique passionately believes that "it is with the vines that you create the potential for a wine, and in the cellar that you work to find its best expression." Dominique manages a total of 26 hectares of vineyards and, at forty, has over twenty years of winemaking experience. The slopes have ideal subsoil, calcareous clay. Thanks to the Vin de Pays regulations, he is able to achieve a good yield from the vineyards, averaging 90 hectoliters per hectare. This also allows him to operate the vineyard in an economically sound manner.

What does the Ferret Cotes de Gascogne Colombard Ugni blanc sec taste like?

This resulted, among other things, in this delightful Colombard Ugni Blanc Sec. Pale gold in color, aromas of lemon, apple, and wet slate rose from the glass. Flavors of green apple, melon, and lemon were supported by a crisp acidity in the light body. Slate elements were accompanied by hints of herbaceous mint in the clear, mineral finish. Sunny and fresh, this is a delightful glass for the patio and with light dishes.
