A sparkling wine from the island of Sicily, unique yet so beautiful! With their Accussi Extra Dry, the Feudo Arancio winery is directly competing with Champagne and Prosecco. And they have every reason to be prepared, because this Accussi Extra Dry is truly a joy to drink. The Feudo Arancio winery was acquired in 2001 by grandmaster Mezzacorona. They purchased the vineyards and winery in very poor condition. Nevertheless, the Mezzacorona winemakers saw the potential to create unique wines from the vineyards. Therefore, they made the drastic decision to uproot all the vineyards and plant new grape varieties. This proved to be a resounding success, and combined with the completely renovated winery, it has become a truly spectacular experience. The winery boasts all the modern gadgets that help winemakers extract the most from the grapes, all while preserving ancient Sicilian traditions. After a few years, the vineyards flourished, and they now produce exquisite wines. The most striking wine is this Accussi Extra Dry, a sparkling wine made from the Grillo grape. Unique and very stylishly crafted.
The unique Accussi Extra Dry
The international wine press has also discovered the uniqueness of this Accussi Extra Dry, having won silver awards at Mundus Vini and the Berliner Wein Trophy, among others. They call it a direct competitor to the renowned Prosecco from Italy and Champagne from France. The Grillo grapes for this sparkling wine come from the southern tip of Sicily. Here, the climate is perfect, with abundant sunshine and the cool breeze from the ocean. This coolness contributes to the freshness of the bunches, a characteristic we taste in this Accussi Extra Dry. The winemaker at Feudo Arancio harvests the grapes at night to preserve freshness and prevent oxidation. Upon arrival, all bunches are thoroughly inspected to select only the finest bunches for white wine. To achieve the beautiful, soft bubbles of this Accussi Extra Dry, a second fermentation is initiated with natural yeast. Over several months, it develops its very soft mousse and preserves the beautiful flavors of the Grillo grape.
What does the Feudo Arancio Accussi Extra Dry taste like?
The bottle alone is a true feast for the eyes, but that's not all. As soon as we remove the Champagne cork, yellow and citrus fruit bursts forth. Fresh apple, lime, and a touch of fresh peach come to mind. In the glass, it erupts golden yellow with delicate bubbles. These bubbles create a pleasant nose and aromas of white fruit (pear, melon) and tropical fruit (mango, pineapple). The palate is very lively, with a lovely attack of white and citrus fruit, and the soft mousse leaves the palate feeling pleasant. The palate offers plenty of richness from the fruit, accompanied by light acidity of green apple and lime.
