This beautiful Feudo Arancio winery was acquired by Mezzacorona in 2001, a company no stranger to Sicily's top wines. The winery has been producing exquisite wines since 1904 and is still family-owned today. They are known for their sustainable approach and wines that are enjoyable from start to finish. But before the acquisition, the Feudo Arancio winery was far from enjoyable and in very poor condition. The winemakers and oenologists decided to clear everything and replant the vineyards. This proved to be a great success; the new plants thrive in the old and fertile soils. The winery was also renovated and is now equipped with state-of-the-art winemaking techniques.
Made with Sicilian traditions
This red Feudo Arancio is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from vineyards along the southern coast, specifically in Sambuca di Sicilia and Acate. These vineyards enjoy a perfect climate, with abundant sunshine and cooling ocean breezes. The vineyards are equipped with an irrigation system, as rainfall is scarce on the island. The harvest is harvested early in the morning at ideal ripeness, minimizing the risk of bruising during transport to Feudo Arancio. Upon arrival, the Cabernet Sauvignon is sorted, and only the finest are used in this red wine. This lays the foundation for a top-notch wine—pure, honest, and clean.
The smell and taste of the red Feudo Arancio
It's a top-notch Sicilian wine with abundant richness and smoothness. We opened the bottle and smelled a wonderful aroma of ripe blackcurrant fruit with hints of vanilla and cedar. The oaky notes come from aging in oak barrels, a period of twelve months, making this red wine unique. French oak barrels are used because they impart more flavor to the wine. As soon as we poured the wine into the glass, beautiful aromas were released. The aroma offered beautiful notes of blackcurrant, ripe cherries, and a touch of spice. The palate was truly FANTASTIC, full and creamy with just the right balance. We noted hints of blackberry, cherry, and vanilla, along with light oak, spice, and a touch of chocolate. A wine that combines smoothness with power—what an experience.
