Fonseca's long port history dates back to 1815, when the two Fonseca and Monteiros families embarked on this adventure. With the right mindset and craftsmanship, the port house has grown into a global player. Fonseca's motto is determination and quality. As long as you're determined, quality will follow, says the current owners, the Guimaraerns family. It is the Guimaraerns family that has been working hard for over a hundred years to achieve the current quality of Fonseca ports.

Wood aging for the Fonseca 10 Year

In the Fonseca cellars, thousands of oak barrels containing various vintages of port wines are stored. It's Fonseca that goes back a hundred years, as such ancient barrels can be found in the cellars. This 10-Year-Old Port is a blend of various vintages, with an average age of 10 years. Thanks to the expertise of Fonseca's winemaker, the 10-Year-Old Aged Tawny has become a global player, and with its unparalleled soft flavor, it's a port for everyone. Almost all the grapes from the Fonseca vineyards are trampled, by far the best way to optimally extract the color, tannin, and aroma from the grapes. In short, a solid foundation for this top-notch Port.

The aroma and taste of the Fonseca 10 Year's Old Aged Tawny

This red port is best enjoyed slightly chilled, as this allows all its aromas and flavors to fully unfold. Upon pouring, we see a beautiful color, just like a 10-year-old port should be. Reddish-brown with a brilliant carmine reflection, promising results. Nosing the glass, we smell a powerful and very soft aroma of currants, light red fruit, a touch of chocolate, and nuances of light spices like cinnamon. On the palate, this red Fonseca 10 carries us back to the best vineyards in Porto. Its soft and full flavor can only be achieved with the finest grapes. Flavor notes of dried fruit, vanilla, plums, and currants are immediately noticeable. On the tongue, at the back of the throat, we clearly sense that this port is an average of 10 years old. We noted some chocolate, coffee grounds, caramel, and some light sweet spices.
