Fonseca's motto is determination and quality. As long as you're determined, quality will follow. With this consistent quality, which the port house has offered for many years, Fonseca Ports are a popular choice in the hospitality industry. Many top restaurants feature one or more Fonseca varieties on their menus. Fonseca Ports are also often used in wine pairings because they are also perfectly paired gastronomically.
The history of Fonseca Porto
Besides the Vintage Ports, one of Fonseca's most famous ports is this Bin 27 Reserve Port. Fonseca, a large and renowned company, has become known for its superb Vintage Ports. But what else is Fonseca about besides being a powerhouse among Vintage Ports? The Fonseca story all begins in 1815, quite a while ago indeed. The port house was founded by two families: the Fonseca and the Monteiros. Later, Fonseca was acquired by the Guimaraerns family, who spent over a century building Fonseca's reputation and shaping its current reputation. From the second half of the twentieth century to the present day, the Yeatman family has been responsible for the well-being of these beautiful ports.
A port with a beautiful youthfulness
This Fonseca Bin 27 Reserve Port is a Ruby-style port that closely resembles a Vintage Port. Its major advantage, however, is that it can be served directly from the bottle and has a longer shelf life. This beautiful and unique port is made from Tinta Barocca, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Nacional, three grapes perfectly suited for hot port production. The vineyards for this port are located on the slopes of the Douro Valley, enjoying very sunny locations. Due to the warm daytime temperatures, it's important that the vineyards are also cooled. This cooling comes from the nights and the wind that blows through the valley. The Bin 27 is a port specially crafted for the Vintage lover. A Vintage Port is quite expensive, so it's not always easy to open a bottle. Furthermore, a Vintage Port must always be decanted and consumed within two days. To broaden the market, Fonseca developed this exceptional port. The characteristic youthfulness of the Vintage is clearly recognisable here, but also the ease of a beautiful Ruby port.
What does this Bin 27 Reserve Port taste like?
But what flavors does this Bin 27 Reserve Port Fonseca offer? Let's start with the color. It's a beautiful ruby red with a slight purple sheen. A truly regal color. Not surprising, considering this is the Prince of Fonseca. On the nose, we noted delicious aromas of blackberries, cassis, cherries, and plums interwoven with notes of nuts and spices. The taste is full and rounded with a smooth, velvety texture and mouth-filling tannins.
