A blend of 50 percent Sangiovese with a very small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (25 percent) and Merlot (25 percent), which adds an elegant touch. Now a classic, it's the estate's first certified organic and vegan red wine.
The unique Italian terroir of Barberani
Barberani is one of Umbria's most respected producers, renowned for its pure, clean-tasting wines. The vineyards are situated on hills overlooking Lake Corbara, near the city of Orvieto in the southwest of the province, south of Tuscany in central Italy. Of the estate's approximately 80 hectares, 50 are devoted to vineyards and olive groves. The terroir is unique. The vineyards are planted on the hilltops, where the soil consists of a mixture of clay and loam.
Previously focused on white wine production, Barberani has also focused on producing high-quality red wines. This has become possible in part thanks to the climate change that occurred due to the construction of a dam on the Tiber River. This created a whole new lake, which has caused the local climate to warm up. This allows the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen much better than before. The vineyards' soils are quite diverse, combining characteristics of volcanic origin with sedimentary limestone and clay. They enjoy excellent exposure around midday and a very favorable climate with a significant temperature difference between day and night.
