The result of two Italian immigrants
Gallo's story is a true success. It was founded in 1933, long before California wines enjoyed their current popularity. In fact, in 1933, there was very little viticulture left, largely due to Prohibition in America. Two brothers of Italian descent, Ernest and Julio Gallo, founded the winery near Modesto. Through years of passion for wine, they grew from a small winery to the largest family-owned winery in the world. An impressive achievement.
