Pfaffl's king's wine is this Golden Gruner Veltliner Weinviertel Reserve. The Gruner Veltliner grapes come from a very steep vineyard called Goldjoch. This vineyard is highly praised for its perfect location, and the climate plays a particularly important role. The difference between day and night temperatures is very high, resulting in a very long growing season. As a result, the harvest doesn't begin until mid-November, which is very late by Austrian standards. But this reserve wine is a welcome bonus!

The vineyards in Golden Jochen

The knowledge and expertise of Pfaffl's winemakers never cease to amaze us. Thanks in part to their perfect location, they can amaze us with their stunningly high-quality wines. They own 67 hectares in Lower Austria and Vienna. It's a family business with a unique charm. Their years of experience and forward-thinking have resulted in a range that is appreciated not only in Austria but also impresses wine connoisseurs worldwide. For a first-class wine, you need first-class grapes. The best locations with their diverse soils are a fundamental requirement. The vineyards are cultivated according to the principle of integrated viticulture, where nature and its preservation take center stage. The foundation for the Golden Reserve is formed by the single vineyard "In golden Jochen," a very dry and hot south-facing slope, which ensures exceptional ripeness of the grapes. The grapes are only harvested when fully ripe.

Pfaffl's best wine is the Golden Gruner Veltliner Reserve

The 25-year-old vineyard currently produces very full bunches, with exceptionally mature flavors thanks to the rich soil and powerful skins. After being harvested by hand, this Golden Gruner Veltliner Reserve ferments for several months in large wooden barrels. But that's not all, as this Top Cuvée is also aged in Pfaffl's cellars for five months. This is also done in oak barrels, making this wine the absolute best in the range. The aroma is refined and complex, with notes of honey, melon, and mandarin. The palate features characteristic hints of spice and black pepper, powerful and full-bodied thanks to the oak aging. A long, spicy finish that lingers in the mouth.
