The gem of the Allegranza winery is this red Gran Allegranza Monastrell. It's no wonder this red wine scores so highly with brands like Guia Penin, recently receiving 91 points, which is remarkable for this price range. It's a truly special glass, made with Monastrell from a 40-year-old vineyard. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of approximately 600 meters, where the sun shines for many hours and the fresh breeze provides sufficient cooling for the grapes. The soil structure consists primarily of clay, gravel, and limestone, allowing the vines to have deep roots. This allows them to easily absorb moisture, which is essential with the warm summers experienced in this wine region.

The Monastrell harvest for the Gran Allegranza

The harvest takes place relatively late, in mid-November. Only when the Monastrell grapes are full and ripe are they partially harvested by hand. Allegranza's winemaker begins harvesting very early in the morning, as this minimizes damage to the bunches. It also minimizes the risk of oxidation, allowing the Monastrell grapes to retain their full vigour. The wine is then aged for an impressive six months in French oak in Gran Allegranza's cellars. This gives it a remarkable richness and finesse, which you can certainly taste.

Full and very powerful this Gran Allegranza Monastrell

The aroma offers warm notes of black fruit such as cherries, blackberries, and ripe berries. But also hints of wild herbs and dark chocolate are noticeable. The taste is soft and fruity, with abundant ripe tannins and dark chocolate on the tongue. At the back of the throat, this Gran Allegranza Monastrell has hints of plums, currants, and a touch of sweet spices like cinnamon. The finish is very refined and full-bodied.
