This is so beautiful, and anyone who didn't know better would think they were holding Champagne in their glass. Well, nothing could be further from the truth, because this Pfaffl Gruner Veltliner Brut is a textbook example of what a sparkling wine from Austria can be. The Gruner Veltliner for this sparkling wine comes from four different vineyards throughout the Vienna Quarter. This allows winemaker Roman Pfaffl to control everything down to the last detail and find the perfect blend for this Brut.

The high quality of Pfaffl

In 1978, young Roman and Adelheid Pfaffl became the owners of Weingut Pfaffl in Stetten, a village just north of Vienna in the Weinviertel region of Lower Austria. Lower Austria is the region surrounding the capital Vienna and is Austria's largest wine-growing region. Loess soils, warm days, and cool nights. Before 1978, the Pfaffl farm revolved around growing grains, potatoes, and raising cows and pigs. Much has changed in a short time. Today, Pfaffl is an international symbol of Grüner Veltliner. They have even been named European Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast. And you don't get this for nothing. Thanks to their accumulated knowledge and passion for wine, they can produce superb, high-quality wines with great care in the vineyards. Pfaffl believes that the entire process, from grape to bottle, must be closely monitored to ensure quality.

Pfaffl Gruner Veltliner Brut is the "Champagne" of Austria

After manual harvesting and a rigorous selection process, which takes place twice, the juice is pressed. The blend is meticulously assembled and then crafted using the Méthode Traditionelle (Traditional Method), the same technique used for a bottle of Champagne. The Brut matures for a total of 18 months with a second fermentation in the bottle in the Pfaffl cellars. The aroma is fresh and slightly peppery, with a richness of apple, citrus, and white flowers. The palate is fresh and invigorating, with soft green apple notes, fine acidity, and plenty of balance from other fresh white and yellow fruit. But what is most striking are the soft bubbles in the flavor, truly unique and very enjoyable to drink.
