Etienne Guigal's most famous wine is this red Cotes du Rhone, and it's a real treat. Mr. Guigal uses three grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre, sourced from a 35-year-old vineyard. This vineyard has a considerable age and produces thick, firm bunches. A great deal of work and time is spent in the vineyard to give the grapes everything they need, and you can taste that in the beautiful, classic style of this Cotes du Rhone.

The harvest of the red Guigal Cotes du Rhone

When the harvest is ripe, the grapes are carefully gathered in the early morning while the grapes are still dormant. This ensures ample freshness in this red wine. This red Cotes du Rhone is aged in oak barrels for a full year and a half. This is quite unique and quite long for a typical Cotes du Rhone. But Guigal wants to show that this is more than just a glass and gives it everything it needs. This makes it head and shoulders above the rest.

What does Guigal's red Cotes du Rhone taste like?

As soon as the bottle opens, you'll smell a beautiful, robust bouquet of fresh red and black fruit, with red berries taking center stage. At the back of the nose, there's a lovely presence of light spice and a swarm of cherries. The color is quite remarkable, a deep red with a purple sheen. The taste of this red Guigal is typical of a ripe and powerful Cotes du Rhone. Beautiful hints of red fruit, light spice, a touch of cedar, and also notes of vanilla and toffee. But this red wine is especially known for its softness and supple tannins. An excellent wine with red meat, barbecue, or simply to enjoy on its own.
