The chalky soils of southern England are very similar to those of northern France—the two countries were once contiguous. Another reason for winemaking is climate change. This allows wine to be grown increasingly further north, as we see in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Gusbourne's vineyards—approximately 90 hectares in total—are located in Sussex and Kent and include the "big three" of Champagne: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. For this Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine, Gusbourne chose only the Chardonnay grape to emphasize the fullness and creaminess of the sparkling wine.
