Quality wine from Gusbourne
Gusbourne has a rich history dating back to 1410, when the first vineyards were planted on the winery's current site. In 2004, the modern winery was established, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its winemaking tradition. With a strong commitment to quality, Gusbourne began replanting vineyards with premium grape varieties, with the primary goal of creating wines of exceptional quality. Gusbourne Pinot Noir is a wine from the Boot Hill Vineyard, located on a south-facing slope in Appledore, Kent. The vineyard has clay and sandy soils and benefits from a surprisingly warm and dry microclimate, with the proximity of the English Channel providing moderating sea breezes. These conditions provide excellent terroir for growing Pinot Noir grapes.
After harvest, the grapes undergo a five-day cold maceration. This cold period allows for additional extraction of color and aromas from the skins, giving the final wine greater depth and complexity. Following maceration, the grapes are destemmed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks for 14 days. After fermentation, the wine undergoes a 10-month aging process in French oak barrels. During this aging, the wine is allowed to mature and develop. The oak contributes to the wine's texture and structure and can also add subtle vanilla and spice notes.
