Another delicious, high-quality wine from Herencia Altes. The grapes for this La Serra Blanc come from the vineyard of the same name. The vines were planted in 1900, making them over a century old! This characteristic farm is situated 450 meters above sea level on limestone and clay soils, providing a wonderful base for the grapes.
Organic vineyards of Herencia Altes
We owe this wine to Nuria Altes, who, driven by her passion, embarked on a wonderful project. The foundation of these wines is their exceptionally high quality, and every effort is made to achieve this high standard. Only the best of the best is good enough. The project by Catalan Nuria Altes is called Herencia Altes. She wanted to revitalize Terra Alta, a somewhat forgotten region of Catalonia. The grapes come from organic vineyards near Batea, a village that accounts for fifty percent of the total DO Terra Alta plantings. The climate is Mediterranean with a continental influence. This primarily results in cool winters, with two strong winds that cool the area during the day. This prevents the grapes from losing their acidity and allows them to ripen perfectly.
12 months of wood aging for La Serra Blanc
They are harvested by hand and transported to the cellar in 18-kilo boxes. The grapes are selected directly from the vineyards. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they are chilled for 24 hours at three to five degrees Celsius. They ferment in oak barrels at around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius. Finally, they are batonnaged for two months and aged in oak barrels for twelve months.
Herencia Altés La Serra Blanc is a powerful, complex, and persistent wine. Its color is bright yellow in the glass. It has aromas of concentrated white fruit notes combined with the toasted aromas of aging. This La Serra Blanc from Herencia Altés is produced only in the finest vintages.
