Nestled in the heart of Chilean wine country, specifically in the Central Valley, lie the Heritage vineyards. The Heritage winery is led by Grand Master Santa Helena, a figure no stranger to Chilean winemaking. Founded in 1942, the winery's mission was to produce premium Chilean wines. It has proven successful, having grown considerably. Yet, Santa Helena remains grounded, maintaining its vision and quality. This Heritage Merlot is a perfect example of this, a wine with abundant suppleness and refinement, all at this price point. This is largely thanks to winemaker Nicolás Pérez-Yañez, who gained extensive knowledge in America during his winemaking training. We taste this experience in this red wine.

The old vineyard in Chile

For this red Merlot, we travel to the heart of Chile, to the Central Valley. There, we find the relatively old vines of Merlot grapes. The climate in which the grapes are grown is superb. Plenty of sunshine, coupled with the cooling wind from the Andes, creates the perfect conditions. The Merlot grapes ripen very evenly and reach peak ripeness. At ideal ripeness, the bunches are brought in overnight to minimize damage during transport to Heritage. Upon arrival, they are sorted, and only the finest are used in this red wine. The result is a red Merlot with exceptional purity.

The aroma and taste of the Heritage Merlot

This red Heritage Merlot from Chile is a true crowd-pleaser: soft, ripe, and powerful—those are the magic words. Upon opening the bottle, we smell beautiful nuances of deep red and black fruit with hints of spice. In the glass, it shimmers ruby red, stimulating all our senses. Nosing the glass, we encounter a wide range of fruit nuances, with cherries and blackberries being the most prominent. There's also a light hint of vanilla and plum, which completes the whole experience. On the palate, the palate is initially pampered by a wonderfully smooth finish. Beautiful flavors of deep red and blackcurrant fruit, accompanied by hints of toffee and stewed cherries. The finish is smooth and very refined.
