This Hiruzta Berezia is an exceptional wine made from the Hondarrabi Zuri grape, grown in the winery's own vineyards in Hondarribia. The terroir is beautifully expressed in this bottle. The mild Atlantic climate, which is quite unique, also contributes to a distinctive and original wine. Highly recommended!
The perfect climate for the Hondarrabi Zuri grape
The young family business, located in the Basque Country, literally means "a harvest by those people." These are, in fact, those of father Asensio Rekalde and his sons Txarli and Angel. The first wines from this estate have been released since 2012. Hiruzta has since become one of the best-performing estates in the region, and its wines are sold in more than 20 countries.
The vineyards where the vines are planted are situated on the slopes of Mount Jaizkibel, the westernmost peak of the Pyrenees. This location protects the vineyards from the wind and moisture from the Cantabrian Sea. The vineyards face southwest on stony soil with a high proportion of clay and marl. This foundation gives the wine its unique character. The grapes are harvested with great care and then destemmed, crushed, and gently pressed. After cold stabilization, the juice is fermented at a controlled temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. Finally, the wine is aged for four months in stainless steel tanks on the lees. The lees are stirred regularly to give the wine the necessary complexity.
Enjoy a fresh wine from Hiruzta
The result is a pale yellow wine with greenish hues. It has an intense aroma of white fruit, citrus, and subtle floral notes. It is a very fresh wine with well-integrated acidity and the full-bodied quality typical of this variety, enhanced by aging on the lees. The finish is long, enveloping, aromatic, and very persistent.
