Hiruzta Txakolí Tinto

This is a modern red Txakoli made from the Hondarrabi Beltza grape, grown in the winery's own vineyards in Hondarribia, Basque Country. The winery's own 17-hectare vineyard is located near the winery itself, at the foot of Mount Jaizkibel. It faces the midday sun, protecting it from the wind and moisture of the nearby Cantabrian Sea, thus enjoying excellent sunshine.

A wine dream of father and sons

The name Hiruzta means "a harvest of three people" in Basque, referring to winery owners Asensio Rekalde and his sons Txarli and Angel, whose shared dream of creating a winery in Hondarribia has now become a reality. Txakoli production in this village dates back to 1186, but the tradition was lost during a long series of sieges and battles that took place there in the early 17th century. Through years of work, the Rekalde family has restored and revitalized Hondarribia's winemaking heritage, with nine vineyards in the Jaizkibel foothills surrounding the winery.

Six months of wood aging for Hiruzta Txakolí Tinto

The Hondarrabi Beltza grape is grown in the Hondarrabi Beltza vineyards and is harvested and transported in small crates. After the harvest is destemmed and crushed, it is fermented in stainless steel. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to vats for malolactic fermentation. It remains in the vats on its lees for six months before bottling. French oak barrels are used to preserve the fruit in the wine for longer. And after six months of waiting, it's time to savor this Txakoli Tinto. It erupts cherry red in the glass with rich aromas of red and black fruit, where strawberry and blackcurrant stand out against a balsamic background and delicate vegetal notes. It's very fresh on the palate with balanced acidity, a smooth finish, and a long finish with abundant aromatic varieties.
