The powerhouse of Il Nespoli is this full-bodied Sangiovese Romagna Superiore Riserva. This wine has been aged for an impressive 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels. During this long period, this Riserva develops into a full-bodied, robust wine with plenty of maturity.
A high-level Italian wine
Chianti fans will adore this silky Sangiovese, whose previous vintage earned Tre Bicchieri, Italy's highest honor. It comes from a family estate, Poderi dal Nespoli, which received significant investment a few years ago. The result was a new, beautifully designed, environmentally conscious cellar and a significant improvement in the wine's quality. The estate is located in the Rubicone region of Romagna, opposite the Chianti Apennines in Tuscany, and is also an excellent area for red wine. Today, as in the past, the winery is managed by the Ravaioli family. Now in its third and fourth generations, Fabio Ravaioli and his nephew Celita currently run the estate. The two are dedicated to the local Sangiovese grape and have been recognized with numerous awards for years. The location of the vineyards and the valley's geography contribute to a microclimate that is particularly ideal for viticulture. The winery prioritizes respect for the environment, including the reuse of water and heat. The family produces a standard Sangiovese, but this Riserva uses grapes from older vines and is aged for a year in barrels for added complexity and intensity.
A full, fruity and creamy Sangiovese
The aroma of this Il Nespoli reveals hints of black fruit like cherries, blackberries, and currants, along with hints of vanilla, oak, and cedar. The palate is full and creamy with plenty of fruitiness and a nice dose of tannins that make the wine exciting. On the back of the tongue, we detected toasted wood, vanilla, and a touch of ripe spice.
