With this Italian Zinfandel, Epicuro has delivered another perfect wine from the vineyards of Puglia. However, the Zinfandel story doesn't begin in Puglia, nor in Italy, nor even in Europe. It all began around 1820 in California, where a new grape variety made its debut: Zinfandel. In the 150 years that followed, Zinfandel experienced great popularity, as did Primitivo, incidentally. However, in 1972, a remarkable discovery was made: the American Zinfandel and the Italian Primitivo were virtually identical. The DNA of both grape varieties is almost identical. Epicuro, ever innovative, finally decided to do something with this. A few years ago, they planted Zinfandel in their vineyards in Puglia, and the result is the Italian Zinfandel Epicuro, an Italian take on the American all-rounder.
Organic red wine from Epicuro
Epicuro's Italian Zinfandel is a unique wine in several ways. Besides being a true American Zinfandel, this wine is also 100% organic. The vineyards are not treated with any chemicals, and great care is taken to preserve the surrounding natural environment. The vineyards are located in Puglia, the original home of the renowned Primitivo. It is therefore incredibly unique that the Primitivo's close cousin, the Zinfandel, can ultimately produce such beautiful wines here.
