A beautiful, full-bodied Merlot from the renowned Stellenbosch region. The vines are planted on black granite, resulting in a fragrant wine with a remarkably dark color. Hence the name Black Magic. This gives the wine a full body with abundant vanilla and coffee notes.
The family business Jordan
The vineyards of the Jordan Winery extend from the Stellenbosch Kloof to the slopes of the Bottelary Hills. These beautiful rolling hills offer stunning views of Cape Town, Table Mountain, and False Bay. The winery was purchased in 1982 by father Ted and son Gary Jordan. They began their adventure with soil and climate research, which allowed them to determine precisely which grape variety to plant on which slope. They achieved a beautiful balance between ripe, concentrated, and fruity wines. Today, Gary and Kathy are at the helm of this family business. They benefit from beautiful old vineyards and produce high-quality wines.
The grapes come from the Oberrotweiler Eichberg vineyard, which enjoys abundant sunshine. The Merlot grapes are carefully harvested in March. Fermentation follows in the winery in stainless steel vats at a temperature of 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. A small portion undergoes extensive maceration, while the remainder is pressed immediately after fermentation. After settling, the wine is racked and malolactic fermentation follows. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
The aroma and taste of Jordan Black Magic Merlot
The result is a robust Merlot with plenty of oaky notes thanks to its oak aging. The aroma reveals warm aromas of plums, vanilla, and coffee. Soft tannins on the palate create a full-bodied wine. The vanilla notes are also clearly evident in the palate, which continues into a pleasant finish.
