A full-bodied and complex South African wine, this The Prospector Syrah from the top winery Jordan. It's made entirely from the finest Syrah grapes planted on a slightly higher-elevation vineyard. The granite-rich soil adds to the complexity. This wine clearly resembles a Northern Rhône wine—what power!

16 months of wood aging for Jordan The Prospector Syrah

Jordan Winery is considered one of the finest wineries in Stellenbosch. They have a long history dating back 300 years. The Jordan family took over the winery in 1982 and, after purchasing it, harvested all the grapes and planted new grape varieties. They carefully considered the soil structure and location best suited for each grape variety. They are the only winery in the region to have planted vineyards facing every direction. At an altitude of between 160 and 410 meters above sea level, the vineyards benefit from the influences of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Furthermore, the vineyards have diverse soil structures. This gives Jordan the most ideal conditions, resulting in uniquely ripe grapes. At peak ripeness, the Syrah grapes are carefully harvested and brought to the winery. A rigorous selection process follows, leaving only the finest grapes. The grapes undergo fermentation between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius, followed by a gentle pressing. This allows the wine to retain its spicy notes. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French and American oak barrels, where the wine is aged for 16 months.

What does Jordan The Prospector Syrah taste like?

The nose reveals refined aromas of blackberries, herbs, and a hint of vanilla. The palate boasts lovely notes of black fruit, spices, pepper, and a touch of dark chocolate. Thanks to its oak aging, the Syrah has acquired light toasted notes and a creamy texture. A pleasant, full-bodied wine that pairs perfectly with many meat dishes.
