Description
José Pariente Las Fincas 2023
The name Las Fincas literally refers to the individual plots from which this wine originates. These are a selection of older vineyards in the DO Rueda, spread across several villages, each with its own unique location and soil type. By monitoring these plots separately and blending them later, the result is a Verdejo that clearly displays more depth and layering than the region's entry-level wines.
How is this wine made?
This wine is made from 100 percent Verdejo grapes, sourced from old vines averaging between 30 and 40 years old. The grapes are harvested plot by plot, largely by hand, ensuring only healthy and optimally ripe fruit is selected. After harvest, each batch ferments separately, primarily in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and precision of the Verdejo. A portion of the wine is then aged for several months on the fine lees, with regular stirring. This adds structure and a slightly rounder texture, without sacrificing the fresh character.
The José Pariente Winery
Bodegas José Pariente , located in Rueda, is considered one of the wineries that shaped Verdejo's modern reputation. The winery began in the 1960s with vineyards primarily used for bulk production. The Pariente family deliberately opted for low yields and a focus on old vines, something unusual in the region at the time. Today, José Pariente is known for precision, terroir-focused wines, and working with individual plots, always maintaining Verdejo's heritage.
Food pairing
José Pariente Las Fincas 2023 pairs beautifully with shellfish such as mussels and clams, but also pairs well with grilled prawns or ceviche. Thanks to its lees aging, this Verdejo also pairs well with creamy dishes like risotto with green herbs or pasta with a light cream sauce and fish.
