August Kesseler's winemaker loves nothing more than a Riesling around five o'clock. And with that in mind, he launched this Five O'Clock Riesling. A clear, juicy, and minerally wine that's also incredibly thirst-quenching. A perfect wine, therefore, around 5 o'clock.
Various quality wines from August Kesseler
In the heart of Assmannshausen in the Rheingau wine region lies the August Kesseler winery. They own some of the finest Pinot Noir and Riesling vineyards in the region, and are therefore privileged to produce high-quality wines from them. Founded in 1924, the winery initially focused primarily on bulk wines. Since then, it has grown from 6 hectares to 80 hectares, becoming one of the Rheingau's flagship producers. They produce 60 percent Riesling and 40 percent Pinot Noir and are members of the VDP and the German Barrique Forum. They market a wide range of wines, from white, red, and rosé to fine sparkling wines.
The Riesling grapes come from various vineyards in Rudesheim, Geisenheim, and Erbach. The vines are deeply rooted in a terroir of slate, quartzite, loess, and clay, giving the grapes unique characteristics. Each vineyard is vinified separately. After harvest, the grapes are taken directly to the winery for temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The juice is then blended and bottled.
A juicy Riesling from August Kesseler
The Five O'Clock Riesling shines lemon yellow in the glass with occasional green hues. The delightful aromas immediately greet you. Peach, apple, and flowers dominate, with some slightly spicy notes. The palate is juicy and airy with lovely minerality. This Riesling is accessible and wonderfully refreshing, making it the perfect accompaniment to a summer salad.
