This beautiful German winery is located in the Kaiserstuhl wine region near Freiburg. It's practically the southernmost point of Germany where wine is produced, and that's reflected in the quality of the wines. But without human effort, there would be no wine, and that's certainly true at Weingut Köbelin, where the third generation is currently at the helm. It all began in 1957 when Albert Köbelin took over the business from his father, and he himself had a son who was also fascinated by winemaking. As a child, he would walk his father's hand through the vineyards and help with the process. His name is Arndt Köbelin, and he's a truly top-notch winemaker, having begun his career at the age of 16, working all over the world. He produced top wines at numerous wineries, achieving international acclaim. But his love for German wine never faded, and he returned to his family. Today, Arndt produces the wines, and the winery has grown significantly in quality and refinement.
The best sparkling wine from Germany
With great courage and love, Arndt Köbelin set out to create a sparkling wine in his beloved Kaiserstuhl. The Pinot Brut had to be a match for the Champagne and Prosecco that are popular today. He decided to create a unique blend with three grape varieties, just like with Champagne. He chose two white grapes, Grauburgunder and Weißburgunder, and one red, Spätburgunder. This quickly proved to be a success for this Pinot Brut, as it has become a superb glass. The grapes ripen superbly on the old vines and are harvested entirely by hand. All three grape varieties are harvested and vinified separately. Then it is up to grandmaster Arndt Köbelin to create the blend for this Köbelin Pinot Brut Privat Cuvée. Once the wine is ready, Köbelin lets the bottles age in the cellar with yeast and sugar to develop soft, fine bubbles. This technique is also used in French Champagne and is unique. After fifteen months of aging, they are removed from the cellar and are ready to be enjoyed.
Full and very powerful this Köbelin Pinot Brut Privat Cuvée
And we do this with love and pleasure, because as soon as the Champagne bottle is capped, we smell a wealth of love and passion. Beautiful aromas of ripe yellow fruit, citrus peel, and a touch of freshly baked bread are released. As soon as we pour this Pinot Brut Privat Cuvée, we see lovely little bubbles. The taste is exquisite, initially offering notes of green apple, pear, and lime. Later, on the palate, this sparkling wine truly unleashes, revealing nuances of roasted nuts, vanilla, and a touch of spice. Simply a joy to drink, and many Champagne lovers should be wary of this Köbelin Pinot Brut Privat Cuvée.
