In 1957, Albert Köbelin took over the magnificent winery from his father. Albert had a son who spent his childhood in the vineyards. By the age of 16, Arndt Köbelin had already worked at several renowned wineries worldwide and, together with his wife, took over the helm of the family business in 2005. Today, the winery has grown into a magnificent estate renowned worldwide for its pure wines. The building that houses the winery was recently built, with a strong focus on nature and the essence of winemaking. Many components used in winemaking have been incorporated into the building, such as glass, oak, and stainless steel. From the winery, a 360-degree view provides an overview of the vineyards and a view of the Black Forest, one of Germany's most beautiful nature reserves. Weingut Köbelin also produces some top-quality wines. These wines fall under the Lösswand 3 Sterne series.
Wood aging for this German white wine
3 Sterne designates vines that must be at least 45 years old, subject to yield reduction, and the wine must be aged in oak barrels. This Köblein Weisser Burgunder Lösswand 3 Sterne meets all these requirements! The old vineyards where the grapes for this exceptional German white wine grow are located in one of the most beautiful locations in the winery. Soil structure plays a significant role during the grapes' growing season. Because the vineyards are planted on volcanic soil, they produce phenomenal grapes. Once the grapes have reached the right ripeness at the end of the beautiful growing season, owner and winemaker Arndt Köbelin will begin the harvest. All the grapes are hand-picked, as only the finest fruit is good enough for this top-quality wine. Once the grapes are gently pressed, the beautiful, pure juice remains, ready for fermentation and vinification. For a perfect finish, this white wine also undergoes beautiful aging in French oak barrels for several months.
Why buy the Köbelin Lösswand 3 sterne?
We're incredibly curious to see what this German white wine from Weingut Köblin will be like. The color is golden yellow with beautiful yellow highlights. On the nose, we noted pleasant notes of oak, vanilla, stone fruit, and mango. This translates to a full-bodied and slightly buttery white wine on the palate. The beautiful nuances of the stone fruit combined with vanilla and a very faint hint of citrus create a wine that is complete from start to finish. We think 3 stars is only a moderate rating for this Köblin gem; we were thinking more like 5! What a gem!
