Krohn Tawny Port

The family business Krohn

Krohn was founded in 1865 by two young Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn. Since then, the port company has built an excellent reputation for its barrel-aged Ports. Going back in time, Krohn was a very small company, focused solely on exporting port wine to the Scandinavian and German markets. In the early 1900s, the company expanded into new markets, including the Netherlands. In 1880, Wiese decided to sell his share to Krohn, as the company was too small to be shared between two owners. However, he continued working as a commercial agent. Thanks in part to his work, sales increased significantly, and the company began to grow. After Krohn's death, it was continued by his wife and daughters, thus remaining a true family business.

Three years of maturation for Tawny Port

Krohn Tawny matures for three years in small wooden barrels of approximately 630 liters. As it ages in the barrel, Tawny Port gradually loses the deep ruby ​​color of its youth and acquires the alluring amber hue known as tawny. At the same time, the wine gradually softens and mellows, and its aromas become richer and more complex. After three years of aging, the wines are blended a few months before bottling for balance and harmony. The warm aroma offers a broad, open note of currants, sweet black fruit, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla. The palate of this Senador Rich Tawny is creamy and full-bodied, with abundant notes of plums, raisins, vanilla pods, and cherries. What a delicious port!
