A beautiful wine from one of the Rhône's most renowned wine regions. It's an expressive wine made from a blend of fully organic grapes: 60 percent Grenache Noir, 30 percent Syrah, and 10 percent Mourvedre. Each grape variety lends its own unique character to this full-bodied, fruity wine.

The historic winery La Nerthe

In southeastern France, we find the Château La Nerthe winery. It's a place steeped in history, with cellars dating back to the 16th century. The vines are spread across 92 hectares of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation. Three families are responsible for the winery's success. The first owner was the Tulle de Villefrancha family. They built the château in the 18th century and introduced their wines to France, Europe, and the United States. Joseph Ducos purchased the winery in the 19th century and renovated the vineyards, planting 10 to 13 grape varieties that are permitted to be grown in Châteauneuf du Pape. In 1985, the Richard family took over, completely renovating the château, vineyards, and cellar. The grapes for this red blend come from old vineyards of the Cotes du Rhône Villages located in Sérignan du Comtat. The vines are planted on a mix of soils, including sand, clay, and limestone fragments. This foundation ensures high-quality, balanced wines. When the grapes are perfectly ripe, they are harvested by hand and sorted in the cellar. A three-week maceration follows to preserve the brightness of the fruit and tannins. The juice is then blended, and the wine is aged for nine months in stainless steel tanks on its fine lees.

How does La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Rhone Villages taste?

This red blend has a dark, deep purple color. It is a medium- to full-bodied wine with a silky texture. The aromas are dominated by Syrah, floral notes, red berries, and sweet spices. The finish is delicate and balanced. A delicious wine with vegetable dishes such as ratatouille, grilled lamb ribs, or pasta bolognese.
