This latest Banfi wine is called La Pettegola and is made entirely from the Vermentino grape. A beautiful grape that was previously missing from Banfi's fine wine collection. A highly aromatic wine, characterized by its rich aromas and delicate flavor.
The beginning of Castello Banfi
Banfi was founded in 1978 by the Italian-American brothers, John and Harry Mariani. From the outset, the two brothers' goal was to create a state-of-the-art winery, combined with the most advanced vineyard science for the production of premium wines. Along with the Mariani family, Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's foremost oenologists, understood that the property's rich soil and privileged microclimate would offer significant development potential. During that time, brothers John and Harry also acquired Bruzzone, a historic winery in Piedmont. Founded in 1860 and specializing in the production of sparkling wines, it is now known as Banfi Piemonte.
All wines are aged in large, traditional Slavonian oak casks and barriques of the finest French oak. The wood for the barriques is personally selected by the winemakers in French forests and dried under their supervision. The wood is not charred too intensely, and the barrels are slightly larger than standard barriques to prevent the oak influence from overpowering the wines. The result is found in the glass: beautiful, well-balanced wines, not only grand Brunellos but also exceptional table wines, both red and white.
A full, fresh wine from Banfi
This delicious La Pettegola Vermentino is no exception. After the grapes are hand-harvested and selected, fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures of thirteen to fifteen degrees Celsius. Finally, the wine matures for three months in stainless steel tanks. Fruity with notes of apricot, grapefruit, flowers, and typical Mediterranean herbs. A full-bodied flavor with beautiful acidity, providing freshness and a lingering finish. Ideal with fish, shellfish, and vegetarian entrees.
