Looking for a silky-smooth French red wine? Perhaps this Lafage Cote Sud is the wine for you. These wines have been a staple in our selection for years. This beautiful southern French winery has a rich and long history but remains family-owned. Today, Jean-Marc Lafage and his wife Eliane are at the helm of Domaine Lafage. The estate is nestled between the azure Mediterranean and the mighty Pyrenees, in the far south of France, between Perpignan and the coast. The estate boasts 140 hectares of vineyards on predominantly chalky soils. With this wide range of vineyards, Lafage knows how to create wines for every taste, from beautiful basic wines to gourmet delights.

French red wine from Syrah and Grenache Noir

The vineyards for this Lafage Cote Sud are located in the Roussillon wine region. Here, the vines are planted with Grenache Noir and Syrah. This wine owes its name to the fact that the wines are planted from south to north. This planting ensures that the grapes receive all the sunlight they can get throughout the day, helping them reach their optimal ripeness. The vines are planted on slate soil, which certainly influences the quality of the grapes. The warm Mediterranean climate also has a significant impact on this delicious wine. The warm temperatures and the wind blowing from the sea through the vineyards create a balanced growing season. Once the grapes have finally reached optimal ripeness, Jean-Marc Lafage begins the harvest. This is done entirely by hand to ensure a strict selection of the fruit. After pressing and vinification, the blend ratio is determined, and the wine is bottled.

The taste of the Lafage Cote Sud

We're now incredibly curious about the final result. We open the bottle and pour it into a beautiful, large wine glass. The purple-red color immediately catches our attention. Glass in hand, we swirl this red wine around. The oxygen that comes into the wine now perfectly releases the aromas, and we note notes of berries, plums, and candied cherries. The taste is soft and smooth, with subtle tannins that still provide a pleasant bite. The black and red fruit also make a delicious return, with a slight peppery finish. Now all that's left is to make a cheese board with aged cheeses or prepare a grilled meat dinner. Our evening will definitely be perfect!
