We already knew Laurent Miquel could make the finest wines, but this incredibly rare Verite Viognier remains one of our favorites. Since 1791, the finest bunches have been cultivated in the centuries-old vineyards. The Viognier grape is particularly noteworthy, as it comes from a very old and small vineyard, allowing for the production of only 7,700 bottles annually. Laurent Miquel, the promising winemaker behind this wine, has invested heavily in modern techniques in recent years while preserving the old traditions, and we taste that reflected in this white Verite Viognier.
Vérité is French for truth
For this Viognier, only the finest and ripest bunches are used in the Cessenon wine region. Here, the old vineyard is rooted in nutrient-rich soil, primarily clay and limestone. The climate is also perfect for Viognier grapes: abundant sunshine but also incredibly cool. The bunches receive this coolness from the wind blowing through the vineyards and the falling nighttime temperatures. This eliminates the risk of mold, allowing for a pure and clean wine. After being harvested by hand, seventy percent of this white wine is aged in oak barrels, developing its unique aroma and flavor. What a beautiful glass of white wine this is!
Full and very powerful, this Laurent Miquel released La Verité Viognier
As soon as the bottle is opened, we smell the ripe aroma of a top-quality Viognier. We noted hints of peach, apricot, and some spice. Upon pouring, we see a golden yellow color with a slight orange shimmer. The wine clings beautifully to the glass, and we clearly notice that this is a powerful glass. With our noses over the glass, our senses are stimulated, and we noted nuances of fresh flowers and yellow fruit like apricot and plum, along with the perfect freshness of lime and grapefruit. The palate is balanced, very ripe with ripe and powerful flavors of yellow fruit. On the back of the tongue, we noted some light spice, vanilla, and oak, as well as a hint of honey. The finish is pure indulgence and leaves us with a warm feeling.
