Le Prieuree des Aublats Menetou Salon, from the Henri Bourgeois winery, is highly regarded in various wine magazines. We have to say, that's not surprising, as all the wines from this magnificent estate are fantastic. This Menetou Salon, too, embodies all the wonderful qualities the region has to offer.
Tenth generation Bourgeois
The renowned Bourgeois wine family, with its vineyards located in the Sancerre region, is a major player in the wine world. This beautiful estate in Chavignol is one of the leading wineries in the Sancerre region. Founder Henri is no longer alive, but his children and grandchildren continue the company's growth. Today, the tenth generation of the Bourgeois family is at the helm. Using grapes sourced partly from their own vineyards (70 hectares) and partly from purchased grapes, the Bourgeois produce exemplary and classic Sancerres. They also make wines from grapes grown outside of Sancerre. The family is also active in Pouilly-Fumé, Menetou-Salon, Quincy, and Coteaux du Giennois, among others.
These are true terroir wines. The grapes are harvested entirely by plot, fermented, and aged separately. This way, each wine's origin is clearly visible. Yields are kept low, down to 50 hectoliters per hectare, and even less if possible. The soil where these Sauvignon Blanc grapes are grown consists of calcareous clay. This produces a wine with distinct elegance, freshness, and delicious fruit. After harvest, the grapes are carefully selected and pressed. They are then aged for several months in stainless steel on fine lees. This gives the wine a beautiful, rich, and juicy character.
How does the Le Prieuree des Aublats Menetou Salon taste?
The Menetou Salon is fruity and fresh, with a hint of spice and musk. This is combined with citrus and floral aromas. The palate is clear, refined, and soft, with a beautiful fruity bouquet and a high dose of minerals and lime. A delicious wine to pair with scallops, chicken salad, or exotic dishes.
