One of our first notes for this wine was: unparalleled beauty! Because that's absolutely what this red wine is, a beautiful blend of Bobal and Syrah grapes from Utiel Requena in Valencia. The Los Patos winery belongs to the Cruz de Castillo family, which is no stranger to Spanish viticulture. The winery has incredible knowledge of the various Spanish wine regions and, since its founding in 1850, has been producing the finest wines. Among them is this red Los Patos Bobal Syrah, which is quite remarkable for its price point. This is partly due to the modern winery at Cruz de Castillo's disposal. They also produce this red wine with a modern touch while preserving old Spanish winemaking traditions. All of this comes together in this Los Patos red wine.

The harvest of the Bobal and Syrah grapes

For this red wine, we travel to the Valencia region and, for a closer look, to the Utiel Requena region. Here, on a south-facing slope, lie the vineyards for this red Los Patos. They are filled with Bobal and Syrah grapes, which complement each other perfectly in this red wine. The bunches enjoy the many hours of sunshine but also the coolness. This coolness, brought by the wind from the mountaintops, provides the harvest with the perfect mix of warmth and coolness during the growing season. This allows the harvest to mature slowly and evenly, drawing considerable strength from the rich soil structure. The harvest is truly fantastic!

The ripe aroma and taste of this red Los Patos

Both grape varieties are harvested and processed separately. Only the finest bunches nourish this red wine, and after pressing, the winemaker at Cruz de Castillo creates the blend. And leave it to him; the result is astonishing. It begins with the pouring, as we see a dark red color with a slight purple sheen. The aroma quickly reveals the Syrah grape, with hints of spice, black fruit, and a touch of pepper. This pleasant aroma continues into the taste, and the palate is teased with blackberries and cherries, along with some spice and a hint of dark chocolate. The finish is ripe and smooth, leaving a warm feeling right up to the last sip.
