Louis Latour Ardèche Chardonnay 2023 0.375L Ardèche, France
Louis Latour Ardèche Chardonnay 2023 0.375L is a fresh, well-rounded white wine from the Coteaux de l’Ardèche, made from 100% Chardonnay. As early as 1979, Maison Louis Latour chose the Ardèche river valley as the place to produce Chardonnay outside Burgundy, precisely because of its clay and limestone soils. The half bottle is ideal when you want to enjoy an accessible Chardonnay with 1 or 2 people, offering fresh citrus, floral notes, and a soft, rounded structure.
Vineyards and Region
This Chardonnay comes from the Ardèche, a more southerly French wine region where Louis Latour has been working with Chardonnay for decades.
• Location / Origin: The wine comes from the Coteaux de l’Ardèche, within the Ardèche IGP. Louis Latour chose this region because the Ardèche river valley offers suitable conditions for fresh, approachable Chardonnay with sufficient ripeness.
• Soil: The vines are planted on clay and limestone. Clay contributes to roundness and ripe fruit, while limestone helps to maintain freshness and tension in the wine.
• Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are on average 25 years old, and the yield is around 45 hl per hectare. The grapes are harvested mechanically, which suits the accessible style and reliable quality of this cuvée.
Grape Composition
This white Ardèche wine is made entirely from Chardonnay.
• Chardonnay – IGP Ardèche: Chardonnay gives this wine its rounded attack, citrus fruit, acacia blossom, and soft structure. In the Ardèche, the grape achieves more southern ripeness than in cooler parts of Burgundy, while stainless steel aging keeps the style fresh and pure.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification focuses on freshness, fruit purity, and a soft, rounded texture.
• Fermentation: The wine ferments traditionally in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. This conversion softens the acidity and gives the Chardonnay more roundness.
• Aging: The wine ages for 8–10 months in stainless steel tanks. This preserves the fresh citrus, floral aromas, and pure fruit, without any influence from wood.
• Aging Potential: This Ardèche Chardonnay has an aging potential of 2–3 years. This suits its fresh, supple style, where fruit and immediate drinkability are central.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
In the glass, this Chardonnay has a beautiful pale gold color. The nose opens with a light flinty touch and then develops aromas of acacia blossom and citrus fruit. The taste is supple and round, with medium acidity, floral notes, and candied lemon on the finish.
• Serving Temperature: Serve this Chardonnay at 10–12 °C, so that the citrus, acacia blossom, and round structure remain beautifully balanced.
• Dishes: Delicious as an aperitif and with charcuterie, fish dishes, grilled chicken, soft cheeses, and light dishes with creamy sauces.
