Luquet Saint-Véran Vers Les Monts 2023
Domaine Luquet, founded in 1878, has been a fixture in southern Burgundy for generations. From the heart of the Mâconnais region, the estate focuses heavily on terroir-driven white Chardonnay wines. This Saint-Véran "Vers Les Monts" is a prime example of their precise, pure style, sourced from old vines around the village of Chasselas.
Vineyards and region
The grapes come from south-facing plots near Chasselas, a village in the northern part of the Saint-Véran appellation. The vines are on average 40 years old and rooted in chalky soils, which creates tension and freshness in the final wine. The south-facing exposure promotes optimal ripening of the grapes without losing their elegance.
Vinification and maturation
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. The wine then matures further in steel, without any oak. This approach fully preserves the terroir's expression, resulting in bright fruit notes and a fresh structure.
Grape composition
100% Chardonnay
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
This Saint-Véran boasts a yellow-green color and opens on the nose with aromas of pear, peach, and a subtle floral note. The palate is crisp and dry, quite complex, with hints of mango and a delicate minerality. Perfect with shellfish such as oysters and cockles. Serve at 10 to 12°C.
