The Maggy Hawk Stormin Pinot Noir honors the remarkable power and refinement of the Anderson Valley, with a wine distinguished by its rich, complex character and unparalleled elegance. This wine is a blend of various parcels and grape varieties from the Maggy Hawk vineyards, carefully selected by winemaker Sarah Wuethrich. The result is an expressive wine that beautifully reflects the essence of the soil and the unique characteristics of the Pinot Noir grape.
Maggy Hawk's Vineyards
In the remote, cool reaches of the Anderson Valley, these vineyards struggle to thrive in the poor, nutrient-poor soil. Fortunately, they are regularly shrouded in mist from the nearby ocean. These conditions allow the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, contributing to the unique freshness and depth of Stormin Pinot Noir.
After careful hand-harvesting, the grapes from various plots are processed in a unique way. Some batches are fermented whole bunches, which gives the wine greater structure and complexity. The wine then matures for 15 months in a mix of new (30 percent) and used oak barrels before being carefully blended. This approach, combined with bottling without filtration or clearing, allows the Stormin Pinot Noir to develop its full, rich character.
