Marcel Deiss was founded in 1947 in the town of Bergheim, in the heart of the Grand Cru region. Mathieu Deiss, with the help of his father, Jean-Michel, is at the helm of this high-quality winery. They own a total of 32 hectares of vineyards planted with various grape varieties. These indigenous grapes are used to produce a wide range of wines. Thanks to the beautiful terroir, this winery has built a fine reputation. Everything revolves around the terroir, which determines the primary character of the final wine. The Alsace Rouge comes from organic vines deeply rooted in soils rich in limestone, gravel, and granite. The winemaker works with utmost respect for the natural balance of the varietal. At peak ripeness, the grapes are harvested by hand. Then, at the winery, the Pinot Noir grapes are destemmed before being placed in barrels. A traditional winemaking process follows, with gentle extraction of the fruit. Half of the wine is then aged in deposits and the other half in oak barrels for 12 months. The wine is then bottled unfiltered.
