This wine is a blend of many different white grape varieties planted together at Engelgarten near Bergheim. The terroir here largely determines the wine's flavor, not so much the grapes themselves. Engelgarten has a gravel soil and, thanks to its favorable location, produces very ripe grapes. It is a dry, slightly oily wine with a wonderfully fruity bouquet. It has a warm mouthfeel and plenty of minerality.

The high-quality Engelgarten vineyard

The Marcel Deiss estate is located in Bergheim and owns 32 hectares of vineyards, which produce beautiful Alsace wines. The Engelgarten vineyard is exceptional and even worthy of Premier Cru status. It lies behind Jean Michel Deiss's house. At an altitude of 250 meters, combined with chalky soil, the grapes develop a strong mineral character. Jean Michel Deiss is the current owner and head winemaker and comes from a family of true winemakers. The flavor and finesse of each wine are determined by the soil, which is why the label lists the vineyard, not the grape varieties. This Engelgarten is made up of 50 percent Riesling, supplemented with Muscat, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. The grapes are grown entirely biodynamically and are allowed to fully mature. Harvesting is meticulous, with only the finest grapes being selected. At the winery, a slow, whole-cluster pressing takes place. Fermentation follows, which takes place at a controlled temperature. The final wine is aged for a full 12 months in large, old cellars.

A soft, balanced white wine

This Engelgarten white wine has a pale yellow to golden yellow color in the glass. An attractive wine with aromas of pear and orange peel. The palate is delightfully soft yet beautifully balanced with a fine acidity. These flavors continue into a long, mineral finish.
