Primitivo is a hugely ripe Italian grape and the pride of the Puglia region in southern Italy. Primitivo is a delicious wine that is very dark, very juicy, and very high in alcohol. It is believed to have originated in Croatia, where it is known as Crljenak. It was then brought to Italy and the United States in the 1800s, where it thrives under the Californian sun.

Nine months of wood aging for Primitivo di Manduria Puglia

Mario del Conte Winery is located in Puglia, one of the most important wine regions in southern Italy. Founded 20 years ago, it has been renowned for its innovations in machinery and winemaking techniques. The winemakers select grape varieties that represent the region in a unique way. The terroir is unique, and the climate allows the grapes to ripen perfectly. The soil is clayey, rich in iron, and characterized by reddish hues, which play a significant role in the grape's development. Thanks to Mario del Conte's dedication, wines of exceptional quality are created. They own thousands of square meters dedicated to perfecting their vinification process. The Primitivo grapes are grown in Salento, where they are given ample time to ripen. At peak ripeness, the grapes are carefully harvested, cluster by cluster. During vinification, the cap is traditionally submerged. This maximizes the fruit characteristics, color, and tannins from the grape skins. This is followed by nine months of aging in both French and American oak.

What does the Mario del Conte Primitivo di Manduria Puglia taste like?

After nine months, it's time to taste this Primitivo di Manduria Puglia. Its intense deep red color in the glass immediately releases the aromatic notes of ripe and dried fruit. We smell plums, blackberries, vanilla, roasted nuts, spices, and raisins. These notes add complexity. The rich tannin structure is perfectly balanced and also ensures a long, pleasant finish.
