French wines with an English edge

Chateau Maris is the vision of Englishman Robert Eden, who emigrated to France over 20 years ago to pursue his dream of making wines that reflect, rather than mask, the land they grow on. Robert's approach to winemaking is based on the fundamental premise that wine is "grown," not "made." Chateau Maris is now a 79-hectare estate divided into numerous small vineyards on the hillside above the village of La Livinière, the first Cru Classe of the Minervois, in the Languedoc region. To produce wines that reveal the true character of the land, Chateau Maris adheres strictly to organic viticulture. The ideal climate allows the grapes to ripen optimally. The warm sun alternates with cool breezes from the Mediterranean Sea. The Vermentino grapes grow on limestone and clay soils along the Mediterranean coast. This soil structure gives the grapes a unique character. The organic grapes are harvested at peak ripeness. Only the very best grapes are selected for this exquisite white wine. After fermentation at low temperatures, they are aged for four months in concrete tanks.
