Description

Secretly, Martin Codax wines are our personal favorite. This powerhouse from Galicia, in northwestern Spain, has captured our hearts. A unique winery born from passion and craftsmanship. A winery that single-handedly made Rías Baixas wines a global staple. A winery that has elevated Albarino to a level of popularity that many wine regions around the world envy. We're talking about Martin Codax; a true crown jewel of Spanish wines.

The wines of Martin Codax

Despite Martin Codax's impressive track record, his history doesn't go back very far. It all began in 1986. Spanish winemaking was primarily concentrated in large regions like Rioja. But there were also plenty of local winemakers in the cool northwest – Galicia. Independently, they couldn't gain the attention they deserved. Therefore, in 1986, they joined forces and founded the Martin Codax winery, named after the mythical poet who lived in Galicia in the 14th century. Since its inception, Albarino has become one of Spain's most popular white wines, thanks in part to the efforts of Martin Codax. They were one of the wineries behind the dO classification that Albarino holds today. Nevertheless, Martin Codax strives to continue innovating and developing. This is why they created this unique Martin Codax Orange Wine Albarino Rías Baixas; a highly exclusive wine of which only 569 bottles were produced.

What makes Martin Codax Orange Wine Albarino Rías Baixas special is that it's an orange wine, a new type of wine increasingly being discovered by various wineries. The Albarino grapes are crushed and then fermented. This process allows the skins to remain in the must longer, giving the wine its orange color. The palate also becomes fuller and firmer, while retaining the characteristic Albarino aromas of Granny Smith, citrus, and minerality. A faint hint of candied fruit is also clearly discernible.
