The Maternigo comes from a single estate, the Impervio vineyard at an altitude of 400 meters. The result is an exceptionally powerful red wine, both classic and grand.
Production of Maternigo Valpolicella by the Tedeschi winery
In the Tenuta Martenigo vineyards, the nature of the soil has led to some of the locations emerging as true crus. The grapes for this Valpolicella Superiore are grown in the Impervio vineyard, which takes its name from the steep slope of the morainic hill. The soils consist of white and yellow marl limestone. Strict organic farming practices apply here, as in all Tenuta Maternigo vineyards. For Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore, the grape varieties Corvina (40 percent), Corvinone, and Rondinella are each vinified to a combined 30 percent. The grapes are overripe in mid-October, then harvested, destemmed, and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place for twenty days at a controlled temperature, after which the wine is aged for fourteen months in Slavonian oak barrels. After bottling, it is aged for another six months in bottle.
